Some program had tried to write to '/Volumes/FireWire/data/'. It seemed to be a mirror of what had been on a firewire drive that had been unplugged before ejecting. Īnother tip is to look in your /Volumes directory. Google couldn't explain these findings, but I found this one reference that sounded interesting. The smaller one is a copy of a portion of my drive, the bigger one was the entire drive. They were both created within one day of one another in Jan 2011. Volumes held two folders named after my Time Capsule backups. I have a tonne of No such file or directory. Sorry i got that wrong, volumes only stores 14GB. Volumes/MobileBackups/Backups.backupdb/bp-mba/-122359/Macintosh HD/usr: No such file or directory Volumes/MobileBackups/Backups.backupdb/bp-mba/-122359/Macintosh HD/.vol: No such file or directoryĭu. Volumes/MobileBackups/Backups.backupdb/bp-mba/-122359/Macintosh HD/Volumes: No such file or directoryĭu. Volumes/MobileBackups/Backups.backupdb/bp-mba/-122359/Macintosh HD/Applications: No such file or directoryĭu. Volumes/MobileBackups/Backups.backupdb/bp-mba/-122359/Macintosh HD/Users: No such file or directoryĭu. Volumes/MobileBackups/Backups.backupdb/bp-mba/-122359/Macintosh HD/cores: No such file or directoryĭu. Volumes/MobileBackups/Backups.backupdb/bp-mba/-122359/Macintosh HD/sbin: No such file or directoryĭu. Volumes/MobileBackups/Backups.backupdb/bp-mba/-122359/Macintosh HD/.Trashes: No such file or directoryĭu. I'm still at a loss as to how to clear this.ĭu. And i'm disappointed Lion isn't clever enough to sync to time machine once plugged in, move the archive data over and clear it off the mac's HDD. However that doesn't tally up to the incredible 90gb that seems to have gone missing. I've tried that and it' highlighted 40gb or thereabouts in the /Volumes/* folder. I did try the terminal commands before however i didn't do them as sudo Now follow the steps in the next screenshot. It's also where your application settings are and many other things that are beyond the scope of this discussion (because I am lazy tonight ) For example, if you use iMail, this is where your mail is. This is where various things get stored that pertain to the user logged in. You'll note that there is another big folder called Library. I have a couple of movies and series in there, hence why it's that size. The Music folder is where your iTunes media folder is by default. They are audio files from applications and the system audio files that make the beeps and gongs when I do things like empty the trash. Why is that? It's because somewhere on my hard drive I do have audio files and the program that displays the graphic found them. Yet the graphic shows that I have 789 MB of Audio. You'll see that I have quite a lot of stuff in the Music folder but I have no music on this computer. This is the contents of your home folder, including the hidden directories.
